The Collen Mashawana Foundation (CMF) today successfully handed over a new, fully furnished home to Ntate Vincent Kgabo in Ramotse, Hammanskraal, Tshwane.
The handover ceremony was a joyful and emotional occasion, attended by hundreds of community members who came together to celebrate this life-changing milestone.
The event was hosted by the Collen Mashawana Foundation. Supported by partners and stakeholders with included the Department of Human Settlements, the City of Tshwane, the National Home Builders Registration Council (NHBRC), Afribiz Invest, Steel World and the South African Women in Construction and the Built Environment (SAWIC & BE).
The new home, built in just one week using Alternative Building Technology (ABT), showcases the power of innovation and partnership in addressing housing challenges. The structure stands as a symbol of dignity, compassion and progress, proving that modern building solutions can deliver safe, durable and beautiful homes efficiently and affordably.
In remarks delivered during the ceremony, the Foundation emphasized that the project reflects its mission to restore dignity and improve lives through collective action:
“This home is not only a roof over someone’s head, it is a symbol of unity and hope. Together, we have demonstrated what can be achieved when compassion meets innovation.”
SAWIC & BE highlighted the importance of empowering women within the construction value chain, noting that female contractors and artisans were actively involved in the building process.
The Foundation also extended support to Jeffrey, a young neighbour who has been caring for Ntate Kgabo. Through CMF, he has been awarded a bursary to further his education — a reflection of the Foundation’s commitment to creating ripple effects of empowerment and opportunity.
This handover marks the third home completed by the Foundation in just three weeks, reinforcing CMF’s ongoing dedication to supporting disaster victims, elderly citizens, and people living with disabilities across South Africa.
