OUTCOMES OF THE GAUTENG ALLIANCE POLITICAL COUNCIL MEETING

Following meetings of the Gauteng Alliance Provincial Secretariat, the Gauteng Alliance Political Council (made up of ANC, SACP, COSATU and SANCO Gauteng Provincial Office Bearers/Officials) met on Monday, 3 November 2025. The meeting focused on organisational and governance issues.
The Alliance Political Council took place at an important time as the Alliance in the province continues to respond positively to the strategic setback experienced during the May 2024 general elections, which resulted in the loss of an outright majority at both provincial and national levels.
The Alliance Political Council recognise the important leadership role Gauteng Province plays in the social, political and economic affairs of the country and continent and the importance of a united and focused Alliance leadership to discharge its revolutionary responsibilities.
The Alliance Political Council emphasised the importance of regular, ongoing communication and joint action among Alliance partners to advance a common programme of radical socio economic transformation to defeat poverty, unemployment and inequality.
Areas of Joint Alliance work agreed to are as follows:
• Implementation of a memorialisation and commemoration programme for struggle heroes and heroines.
• Coordination of political education initiatives.
• Strengthening Alliance relations and organisational capacity of each Alliance component at local, zonal/subregion, regional and provincial levels in line with resolutions of provincial and national conferences.
• Strengthening Alliance monitoring and evaluation of the Gauteng Provincial Government 13 plus two priorities, particularly to advance progressive economic interventions to improve the livelihoods and wellbeing of Gauteng people.
• To actively participate in the 40th Anniversary commemoration of COSATU in December 2025 in Dobsonville, Soweto, Gauteng.
The Alliance Political Council welcomes the Special Investigation Unit (SIU) Report on Tembisa hospital investigation and all the measures being taken by the Gauteng Department of Health to implement the SIU report.
The Alliance Political Council welcomes various measures being taken by the Premier such as conducting lifestyle audits for MECs, Senior GPG Officials and all GPG Supply Chain Management staff.
The Alliance Political Council calls on the Premier and GPG to intensify all measures to defeat mismanagement, maladministration, crime and corruption.
The Alliance Political Council also welcomes the report of the Public Protector on the process to appoint Gauteng Crime Prevention Wardens.
The Alliance Political Council also welcomes the commitment made by Premier Panyaza Lesufi to implement all the remedial actions by the Public Protector and to save jobs of all the 9000 plus Wardens.
The Alliance Political Council reaffirms its full confidence in the leadership of Gauteng Premier Panyaza Lesufi and the team of Members of the Executive Council (MECs) he leads.
The Alliance Political Council rejects with contempt the opportunistic and disruptive DA Motion of No Confidence against him to be debated by the Gauteng Provincial Legislature on Friday, 14 November 2025.
The Alliance Political Council calls on all political parties represented in the Gauteng Provincial Legislature to unite and defeat the motion in defence of the Gauteng Government of Provincial Unity because all the issues raised by the motion are being addressed by the Premier and GPG.
