A Clarion Call to All Gauteng Citizens: Defend Premier Panyaza Lesufi — A True Champion of Social Development

At a time when Gauteng is undergoing one of its most ambitious and people-centred transformations, it is disappointing — though not surprising — to witness the Democratic Alliance (DA) once again launching a racially charged and politically motivated attack against Premier Panyaza Lesufi. The DA’s so-called motion of no confidence is not about governance, accountability, or service delivery — it is a desperate act of political theatre rooted in hypocrisy, fear, and the party’s well-documented disdain for black excellence and progressive leadership.

Premier Lesufi has emerged as one of the few leaders who genuinely understands the social and economic realities faced by ordinary citizens. His vision is not one of comfort for the privileged few, but one that seeks to uplift the working class, the unemployed youth, and the forgotten townships that have for decades suffered neglect. Through initiatives like the Amapanyaza community safety program, massive investments in education, township economy revitalisation, and job creation drives, Lesufi has redefined what it means to govern with compassion and conviction.

Yet, the DA — the same party that claims to stand for good governance — selectively applies its so-called moral compass. When confronted with corruption scandals and leadership failures within its own municipalities, the DA is quick to downplay, delay, or outright deny. But when a black leader from a people’s movement shows tangible progress in transforming communities, the DA’s first instinct is to destabilize and discredit. This is not only hypocrisy — it is racism dressed up as accountability.

Gauteng residents must see this motion for what it truly is: a cowardly attempt to reverse the gains made under a people’s premier. The DA cannot stomach a government that prioritises human dignity over corporate interests, nor can it accept that social development — housing, education, safety, and youth empowerment — are not privileges, but rights.

As a proud Gauteng resident, I stand firmly with Premier Lesufi. His leadership has restored hope to many families, particularly those in the township and informal settlements who, for the first time, feel seen and heard by their government. Under his stewardship, Gauteng has become not only the economic hub of South Africa but also a beacon of inclusive development and innovation.

Gauteng’s progress must be safeguarded through civic unity and constructive dialogue. Citizens, civil society, and institutions should work together to ensure that development continues without political disruption or divisive rhetoric.

Premier Panyaza Lesufi represents the aspirations of millions — the hopes of young people yearning for opportunity, the dignity of workers striving for better lives, and the spirit of ubuntu that defines who we are as a people.

This is not just about defending a man — it is about defending a vision for a just and equitable society.
