A new Crowdsignal online survey has overwhelmingly cleared Gauteng Premier Panyaza Lesufi of any wrongdoing in relation to the controversial AmaPanyaza community safety programme.

According to the poll, 66% of respondents said Lesufi acted in good faith to address Gauteng’s rising crime levels and that his focus was on community safety — not on circumventing the law. Only 31% believe he should be held accountable for the decision, while 1% remain unsure.

The results come amid ongoing political attacks, including a motion by the Democratic Alliance (DA) seeking to paint Lesufi’s initiative as unlawful and populist.
